SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – At 2:06 PM on Friday, November 27, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched the first alarm assignment to 15 Main Street in Port Carbon at the Penn Equipment Company for a reported commercial building fire. The first alarm included Fire District 59 (Port Carbon), Palo Alto, Saint Clair Tower 701 and Pottsville City Engine 32, Ladder 21 and Rescue 63. SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – Shortly before 6:30 PM on Sunday, November 22, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched the first alarm to 252 Hillside Drive in Ryan Township for a reported house on fire. The initial alarm included Fire Districts 26 (Ryan Twp.), 25 (Rush Twp.) and 6 (Delano Twp.) as well as multiple units out of Mahanoy City and Engine 367 (Altamont). SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – Around 12:00 PM on Friday, November 13, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 transmitted Box 342 for the address of 1009 West Howard Avenue in the City of Pottsville for a house fire. SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – On Friday, November 6, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched Fire Districts 38 (Ashland) and 45 (Girardville) to 1020 Walnut Street in Ashland for a reported house on fire around 1PM. Assistant Chief 3802 was immediately on radio reporting a working fire with heavy smoke showing from the middle of a row requesting a second alarm be dispatched. SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – Around 9:15AM on Wednesday, November 4, Tamaqua Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Pine and Biddle Streets in the borough for a reported house on fire. EMS and PD arrived on the scene to find smoke showing from a duplex on Biddle Street, it was unknown if anyone was in the residence. SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – At 11:59 on Wednesday, September 9, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 transmitted Box 15 for 210 Washington Street in Tamaqua Borough for a reported apartment building fire. The Tamaqua Fire Department, Tamaqua Rescue and Tamaqua EMS were due. Immediately after dispatch, Tamaqua Police spotted the fire from blocks away and confirmed a working fire. Sheppton Mine Disaster Historical Marker Dedication
SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – 52 years ago, three men became trapped underground in a coal mine in Sheppton. Those men, David Fellin, Henry Throne and Louis Bova were trapped in a mine off Schoolhouse Road. Two of the men, Fellin and Throne, were found to be alive and a rescue effort soon began. The event gained national attention as this was the first rescue attempt of its kind. A borehole was used in an attempt to rescue the miners. SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – On Saturday, August 15, the 61st Schuylkill County Firefighters Convention concluded with a grand parade in Shenandoah. The Convention was hosted by the Polish American Fire Company #4 who is also celebrating 100 years of service to the community. The morning began with parade registration held at the fire company at the intersection of Centre and West Streets. From there, participants moved to a judging station for each type of apparatus.
