SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – A procession of police cruisers, fire engines and ambulances led the vehicle carrying Joseph Murton V to his final resting place at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Pottsville.  Pottsville Fire Department Ladders 21 & 51 set up an arch in front of City Hall, where Murton served the City as a police officer for 42 years. Murton retired from the Pottsville Police in 2013 as Chief, a position he held for 11 years.  Murton was also a life member of the Humane Fire Company and a member of the Pottsville Lions Ambulance. CRAWFORD COUNTY, PA – On Saturday, September 27, the Crawford County Firemen’s Association hosted the 135th PA State Fireman’s Convention in Meadville.  The parade traveled through Meadville and then a celebration and awards were held at the end of Main Street. CHESTER COUNTY, PA – On Saturday, September 28, 2013, firefighters from throughout Pennsylvania and surrounding states gathered in West Chester for the 134th Annual Parade of the Pennsylvania State Fireman’s Convention.  The Convention was hosted by the Fame Fire Company #3 of West Chester who was celebrating their 175th Anniversary. SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – On Saturday, August 24, the Citizens Fire Company #2 of Mahanoy City hosted the 59th Annual Schuylkill County Firefighters’ Convention.  A large parade was held to celebrate the event.  Firefighters, community members, bands and elected officials gathered from throughout Pennsylvania to participate in the parade.  The parade marched down Mahanoy Avenue and up Centre Street for a large gathering of spectators to enjoy the participants.  After the parade, a party was held at the Citizens station where attendees could socialize and enjoy food and beverages.  Awards were given out to the best participants.  Many participants expressed … Continue reading →

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – The 59th Annual Schuylkill County Firefighters’ Convention started on Sunday, August 18 with a Memorial Service in Mahanoy City.  The service began with a procession from the Citizens Fire Company, the host of the convention, to Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church on West Mahanoy Avenue.  The entire Mahanoy City Fire Department was joined by companies from throughout Schuylkill County in the procession. Attendees were welcomed to the church by the pastor of the parish, Rev. Kevin Gallagher and the President of the Citizens, Harry Wagner Jr.. SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – On Saturday, June 29, Schuylkill Hose #2 of Schuylkill Haven hosted the 110th Annual Six County Firemen’s Convention.  Firefighters from Columbia, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Montour, Northumberland and Schuylkill Counties gathered with their apparatus to parade throughout the borough.  After the parade, a celebration was held at the Schuylkill Hose where attendees enjoyed refreshments, music and awards for the best apparatus.
