Schuylkill County companies take advanced RIT
SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – On Saturday, November 18 crews from throughout Schuylkill County met at an acquired structure in the Borough of Gilberton to participate in the final day of Rapid Intervention Team advanced training. The class was taught by Father Bill Glosser with help from Kevin Sibbett and Steve Schneider. The class was open for registration for all companies throughout the county. Firefighters from Englewood, Llewellyn, Mahanoy City (Citizens and West End) and Pottsville attended the class and were able to learn many tips and practice their skills. Orwigsburg celebrates 125 years
SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – On Saturday, October 13, the Friendship Hose Company #1 of Orwigsburg celebrated 125 years of service to the community. The festivities were kicked off with an apparatus parade through the borough. Residents came out to wave to firefighters and check out the units from throughout Schuylkill County. After the parade, visiting firefighters and residents came to the firehouse and enjoyed food and refreshments along with music provided by a disc jockey. PA State Convention
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA – On Saturday, September 29, Fire & Film traveled to Norristown for the 133rd annual Firemen’s Association of the State of Pennsylvania Convention. Mutual aid training at County fire academy
SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – Firefighters from the Citizens Fire Company of Mahanoy City and the Goodwill Fire Company of Frackville met at the Schuylkill County Fire Training Academy on Thursday, September 20 to have a joint training. Members went over all of the apparatus and got some time setting up and flying the aerials. Rookie members were put through a maze to familiarize themselves with zero-visibility conditions. Schuylkill Historical Fire Society holds annual muster
SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – The Schuylkill Historical Fire Society held its annual muster at the Schuylkill County Fire Academy on Sunday, September 9. Participating apparatus started off the day with a parade from the Schuylkill Mall through Frackville and onto the training grounds. The parade entered the Academy by passing under an arch made by retired ladders from Tamaqua and Shenandoah. Multiple engines then set up around the large pond that is on the training campus to begin their drafting operations. Allentown investigates suspicious powder
LEHIGH COUNTY, PA – Hazmat crews from Allentown were dispatched late in the morning on August 9 to investigate a suspicious powder found in an envelope. The Allentown Fire Department was dispatched around 11:00 AM for a report of an unknown white powder found in an envelope received at a local business. The business, Dorward Wholesale, was located at 1130 Hanover Avenue in the City. Engine 5 responded and staged in a nearby parking lot while the Hazardous Materials Unit was requested. Victim takes off during water rescue
NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, PA – At 15:15 hours on Tuesday, July 19, water rescue personnel were requested to the Lehigh River in Northampton Borough for a water rescue. Fire 42 (Northampton), Fire 47 (Lehigh Township), EMS 49 (Northampton Regional) and Lehigh County Station 40 (Whitehall – Cementon) were dispatched. 4261 was on scene with a male in a white shirt in the river who had submerged under the water. Crews search Lehigh River for missing woman
LEHIGH COUNTY, PA – Rescuers from multiple fire companies worked together to search for a missing woman along the Lehigh River in North Whitehall Township. At 8:25 PM on Wednesday, May 26, Lehigh County 9-1-1 dispatched Stations 12 (Laurys Station), 22 (Schnecksville), 67 (Northern Valley EMS), North Whitehall Rescue and Northampton County Station 47 (Lehigh Township) to the Treichlers Bridge on Route 145 for a swift water rescue. NOVA holds annual open house
LEHIGH COUNTY, PA – Members of the community came together on Sunday, May 15, to enjoy a fun-filled day at the Northern Valley Ambulance Open House. Attendees were treated to demonstrations, games, food and other information. Starting at 1PM, children were able to play games within the station or go outside and look at a group of fire trucks and ambulances. In one demonstration, members of the Neffs Volunteer Fire Company raised their aerial and rappelled from the bucket.
