Nuremberg-Weston Vol. Fire Co. celebrates milestones

LUZERNE COUNTY, PA – On Sunday, August 28, 2016, the Nuremberg-Weston Volunteer Fire Company gathered at its station on Hazle Street between Nuremberg and Weston to celebrate two milestones.  The first was 30 years of service to the community after the merger of the Nuremberg Fire Company and the Weston Fire Company.  The second milestone was the housing of Tanker 585.

A fire apparatus parade kicked off the celebration at 2PM that included fire companies from Columbia, Luzerne and Schuylkill Counties and traveled through Weston, Nuremberg, Fern Glen and Rock Glen before returning to the station.

The celebration continued with the dedication and housing of Tanker 585 which the company received a few months ago.  The Tanker is a 2008 Midwest International with a 3500 gallon water tank and 500 GPM pump.  The tanker received a blessing and a bottle of champagne was smashed off the front bumper.

Members of the department that have been active since the merger in 1986 then received awards of appreciation for their service to the community.  The awards continued with participating fire companies receiving awards for the apparatus that were judged prior to the parade.

The fun continued into the evening as members, community members and fellow firefighters celebrated the company’s achievements and enjoyed hot dogs, potato cakes, cake and refreshments.
