SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – Around 9:30PM on Monday, September 19, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched Fire District 9 (Sheppton-Oneida) to the area of 899 Pole Road in East Union Township for a report of an automobile fire.
Chief 09 and Engine 09-10 went responding and were advised of at least two RVs on fire in the yard of a residence in this area. Chief 09-01 arrived on scene shortly after and advised a working fire in two RVs impinging on two nearby RVs. Chief 09 requested a tanker out of Shenandoah and Ringtown be added to the card.
The Chief and Engine arrived on scene shortly after and requested a tanker task force be dispatched to the remote scene. This request brought both tankers out of Nuremberg, Tanker 461 out of Mahanoy City and Columbia County Tanker 353 (Aristes).
The Engine took the driveway and stretched three handlines and a blitzfire off the rear to knock down the fire however water supply was an issue until more tankers arrived on the scene. The fire continued to grow and spread to all four RVs.
Ringtown Engine 30-10 began to draft from a portable pond from tanker 09-30 and fed 09-10. Tankers lined up along pole road and after dumping continued to a water bottling facility in Brandonville where Shenandoah Heights Engine 881 had a tanker fill site set up.
A second alarm was struck for the tanker task force bringing Quakake 25-35, Wilburton 332, Hazle Twp. 141 Tanker 6 and Harwood 241 Tanker 1.
The bulk of the fire was knocked down within an hour of units arriving on scene but crews continued to douse hot spots till after 1AM. A State Police Fire Marshal was called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
