SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – At 10:47 PM on Tuesday, July 19, the Shenandoah Fire Department was dispatched to the Burger King at 331 South Main Street for an investigation at the request of the police department. The response was quickly upgraded to a building fire as police then reported a fire in the bathroom.
Crews arrived to find “a lot of smoke in the complex” said Fire Marshal Rick Examitas. “There was no fire present as the police department had the fire knocked down.”
Examitas continued, “Crews took in a water can and thermal imaging camera and the [Squirt] 745 crew went to the roof to look for extension.”
Squrt 745 was positioned on the “C” side of the building with the boom to the roof. Engine 747 staged at the drive-thru on the “D” side and Engine 742 staged at the A/B entrance.
A charred bathroom exhaust fan was seen being carried out of the building and placed on the sidewalk.
Firefighters used exhaust fans in the entrance doors and drive-thru window to clear out the smoke from the building. Examitas said the damage was limited to the restroom and units were clear of the scene within 30 minutes.
The business appeared to be open for customers Wednesday morning.
