Pottsville Police rescue driver from overturned vehicle in City creek

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. – Around 12:15 PM on Thursday, February 15, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched units to the area of Centre and Peacock Street in Pottsville for a vehicle accident with entrapment.  Stations 30, 40 and 60 were due with Schuylkill EMS.

First responding units were advised of a vehicle down into a creek, upside down with the driver still in the vehicle.

Police arrived on scene and immediately went into action.  They found a Saturn upside down in the creek that sits along Peacock Street, the driver was still in the vehicle.  Firefighters on the scene told Fire & Film that two officers jumped in the water and smashed a window out with a sledgehammer.  The officers were able to pull the driver out of the vehicle and out of the water.  The victim was then transported to a local hospital via a Schuylkill EMS ambulance with unknown injuries.

Fire units remained on the scene as Womer’s Garage arrived and determined how to get the vehicle out of the water.  A safety line was stretched off Engine 32 as the car was chained to a hook and then lifted into the air about 12 feet up to the street.  The vehicle was back on all four wheels around 1 PM and units were able to clear the scene.
