Garage fire quickly extinguished in Shenandoah

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. – At 10:32 PM on Wednesday, December 12, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched District 64 (Shenandoah) and District 48 Station 5 (West End – Mahanoy City) to the area of East Penn Street and North White Street in Shenandoah for a garage fire.

Police arrived shortly after dispatched to find a working fire in a single story garage in the 100 Block of East Penn Street. Police had smoke showing from the garage door.

Squrt 64-20 came in off Bower Street and stretched two 1.75″ hand lines to the stand alone garage.  Engine 64-12 secured a water supply on White Street and fed the Squrt with a 2.5″ line.

Other units arrived on scene and staged while sending their manpower to the building. Firefighters were able to knock the bulk of the fire down within 10 minutes of arrival.  A team of firefighters went to the roof and cut a ventilation hole to allow the heat and steam to escape into the cold night sky.

No injuries were reported at the scene.  An investigation for the cause of the fire is now underway.
