Single line stretched for Shenandoah fire

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. – At 3:56 PM on Saturday, January 5, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 sent Fire District 64 (Shenandoah) and District 48 Station 5 (West End – Mahanoy City) to 629 West Penn Street in Shenandoah for smoke in a house.

First responding units were advised of a call reporting smoke in the attic of this residence.  Squrt 64-20 arrived on the scene and found smoke showing from the eaves of the two and a half story residence and declared a working fire.

Engine 64-10 secured a water supply and laid into the scene, then drug a line to feed the Squrt.  Ladder 64-25 staged behind 64-10 while 64-12 came in to the scene from the East and staged near the A/D corner.  64-11 was sent to the rear of the structure on Washington Street.

Firefighters stretched one line off the Squrt to the attic and made quick work of the fire.  A window was taken out on the “B” side and charred debris was thrown down to the ground.

The fire was under control in less than ten minutes and crews overhauled the building. West End firefighters stood-by outside the structure as the Rapid Intervention Team.

No injuries were reported on the scene while Shenandoah EMS staged just to be safe.
