LEHIGH COUNTY, PA – Members of the community came together on Sunday, May 15, to enjoy a fun-filled day at the Northern Valley Ambulance Open House. Attendees were treated to demonstrations, games, food and other information.
Starting at 1PM, children were able to play games within the station or go outside and look at a group of fire trucks and ambulances. In one demonstration, members of the Neffs Volunteer Fire Company raised their aerial and rappelled from the bucket.
Laury’s Station Volunteer Fire Company had a station set up for children to pretend to be firefighters as they climbed through windows and doused fake flames with a booster line. The Walnutport Fire Company brought the Northern Lehigh Family Safety House where children were able to learn about fires in their homes.
The Slatington Fire Department and Tri-Clover Fire Company of Orefield each brought a piece of apparatus to show off during the day. The Eastern PA EMS Council also brought its command unit.
Attendees were able to meet Oklahoma, a search dog with Valley Search & Rescue and get information on what the team does.
At 2PM, everyone was gathered near a car in the corner of the parking lot. Officials explained to the crowd that a mock rescue would take place. Rescue technicians from the North Whitehall Rescue began to go to work to free two victims trapped in the car. The techniques that were used were explained to those gathered along with tips on what the public should do when they see a crash. Both doors were removed as well as the roof and the patients were extricated.
A special landing of Lehigh Valley Health Network MedEvac 4 was scheduled but had to be cancelled due to the poor weather conditions.
Those attending were treated to free hot dogs and refreshments in the social hall.
