LEHIGH COUNTY, PA – Six people were transported to local hospitals following a motor vehicle accident Thursday evening.
Lehigh County 9-1-1 dispatched Station 26 (Tri-Clover) and EMS 67 (Northern Valley) for two units just after 6:30 PM on May 26 to the intersection of Mauch Chunk Road and Cedar Crest Boulevard in North Whitehall Township.
Chief 2601 (Johnson) went responding and was advised of a two vehicle accident with up to eight people injured. Fire Police Captain 2609 arrived on scene shortly after and stated he had a patient with facial lacerations.
Medic 6791 arrived on the scene and assumed EMS officer. Medic 6792 arrived moments later and began to assess and treat the most serious patient. Triage revealed a total of six patients, one patient with moderate injuries who was still in a vehicle and the remaining were walking wounded.
Chief 2601 arrived at the scene assuming Fire 26 Command. Engine 2692 was directed to approach from the South on Cedar Crest Boulevard and assist EMS with patient packaging. Spill 2691 was directed to use the same route and begin hazard and spill control on the vehicles once they arrived.
With the number of patients present, EMS officer contacted Lehigh County 9-1-1 for two additional EMS units. Two units from Station 62 (Cetronia) were dispatched to the scene.
While waiting for the additional resources to arrive, crews remained with the patients and cleaned up most of the accident. The Pennsylvania State Police were on scene to investigate the cause of the accident.
