LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. – At 2:16 PM on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, Hazle Township Fire and Harwood Tanker were dispatched to 225 Beaver Brook Road in Hazle Township for a residential structure fire.
141 Chief was advised of a call reporting a fire on the front porch of a residential building. With the report, 141 Chief requested six tankers, McAdoo fire and Hazleton Fire 139 RIT.
141 Chief arrived on-scene to confirm the working fire at the A/D corner of a duplex with extension to the second floor. A second alarm was struck.
The request for additional resources brought units from McAdoo, Weatherly, Sugarloaf, Valley Regional, Hometown, Beaver Meadows and Foster Township.
141 Engine 2 laid supply line from Coal Street where McAdoo tanker would pump water from a portable pond set up by 141 Tanker.
Multiple lines were stretched into both sides of the duplex were crews found fire spreading.
141 Tower 7 staged on the “B” side and laddered the building and began to take out windows. The bucket was put in service to take additional windows before heading to the roof for vertical ventilation.
Additional lines were stretched off Engine 2 and taken to the second floor where fire could be seen venting from the windows.
Additional manpower was requested from West Hazleton, Freeland and Mahanoy City.
Crews worked inside, came out for a fresh cylinder and a bottle of water and went right back in to help bring the blaze under control.
After about an hour of work, the bulk of the fire had been knocked down and crews worked to mop up hot spots and hidden pockets of fire.
Hazle Township crews worked into the evening hours while out of town units were released around 5PM.
