LUZERNE COUNTY, PA – Around 15:00 hours on Thursday, February 9 Hazle Township Fire & Rescue were dispatched with APTS Medic 11 to State Route 924 in the area of Chestnut Hill Road for the motor vehicle accident with reported injuries.
Rescue Engine 103 with Chief 101 immediately responded to the scene. Units were advised that Medic 11C was on the scene of a severe motor vehicle accident at the above location requiring fire, medics and PSP.
Fire personnel arrived on scene to find a passenger car in the northbound lanes that was struck in the rear by a Garda Armored Truck. The truck then continued to travel into the woods. One patient was still in the car upon arrival.
EMS assessed and began to immobilize the patient. Once immobilized, the patient was loaded into an awaiting ambulance and transported to a local hospital. Fire crews provided fluid and hazard control while the accident was investigated by PSP. Units remained on scene for approximately thirty minutes.
