SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – On Saturday, August 24, the Citizens Fire Company #2 of Mahanoy City hosted the 59th Annual Schuylkill County Firefighters’ Convention. A large parade was held to celebrate the event. Firefighters, community members, bands and elected officials gathered from throughout Pennsylvania to participate in the parade. The parade marched down Mahanoy Avenue and up Centre Street for a large gathering of spectators to enjoy the participants. After the parade, a party was held at the Citizens station where attendees could socialize and enjoy food and beverages. Awards were given out to the best participants. Many participants expressed their thoughts and concern for the Washington Hook & Ladder Company of Mahanoy City as they experienced a horrific fire just hours before the parade that destroyed their ladder truck and heavily damaged their station.
