SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA – On Monday, September 30, Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatched Fire District 9 (Sheppton-Oneida), Mahanoy City West End for the rescue and Shenandoah ALS to 450 Main Boulevard in East Union Township for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment.
Responding units were advised of a single vehicle crash with one person trapped in the vehicle. Engine 09-10 arrived on the scene and confirmed one Jeep versus a rock with a male pinned under the dash. The engine crew stabilized the vehicle and began the extrication.
Medic 6403 arrived on the scene and began to evaluate the patient. A helicopter was requested to be on standby until more access was gained to the patient and he could be evaluated further. Rescue 993 arrived on scene and supplemented the rescue efforts.
Two doors were removed and the dash was rolled. The patient was extricated onto a backboard and loaded into the ambulance. Upon further evaluation it was decided the patient needed to be flown to a trauma center due to the severity of his injuries. The patient was transported to the Shenandoah helipad where MedEvac 7 was waiting for the patient. Squrt 745 handled the landing zone. The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the accident.
